Application Process & Player Placement

  • Our Philosophy

At WIA, player placement is guided by long-term development, not short-term results.

Every player develops at their own pace. Our responsibility is to place players in environments where they can be appropriately challenged, supported, and given the best opportunity to grow both on and off the field.

Players apply to a program based on their birth year, not to a specific team, division, or level of play.

  • Selection Criteria

Our staff considers a range of factors when evaluating players, including:

    • Commitment and attendance
    • Coachability and attitude
    • Focus and engagement
    • Decision-making and creativity
    • Motivation and willingness to learn
    • Technical ability
    • Physical readiness

We are looking for players who are ready to learn, work consistently, contribute positively to the environment, and trust the development process.

  • Player Placement

All placement decisions are made by the Technical Director and coaching staff based on each player’s individual needs, readiness, and stage of development.

Placement considers a combination of factors, including technical ability, game understanding, decision-making, physical development, learning environment, and overall readiness.

When appropriate for development, players may train and compete within their birth year or in a different environment.

Player placement is ongoing and may change throughout the season as players continue to develop.

IN SEASON (SEPT – MARCH) APPLICATIONS

At WIA, we respect and support every player’s right to choose the environment that best fits their development.

Player movement during the season can impact clubs, teams, and the league. We are committed to working collaboratively with all district clubs to ensure decisions are made responsibly and in the best interest of the player.

If a space becomes available within our program mid-season and the transfer does not negatively affect another team, WIA will work with the player to facilitate the transition.

However, we encourage stability within the season and aim to minimize mid-season movement whenever possible.
